To Seek Virtue and Knowledge
Oakland University is one of many underrated universities that Michigan has to offer. Located between Rochester and Auburn Hills Michigan it offers a wide range of degrees, the main perk being a plethora of fine arts degrees that a lot of more notable universities do not offer. With over 18,000 students enrolled in the 2008 fall semester, OU has been consistently growing in attendance since its 1957 inception.
Oakland University offers 120 baccalaureate programs and 100 graduate degree programs, which the university is affiliated with many companies within the state, offering internships (at times requiring them) in every field of study.
Oakland University has a wonderful cultural appeal. The campus is littered with art and architecture which is mostly created by students of the institution, but also has the fourth largest house museum in the United States. Meadow Brook hall is home to paintings by Rembrandt and Anthony van Dyk. The music hall is the summer home of the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and the venue that Iggy and the Stooges chose to play one of their shows as a reformed group and is the largest non-profit theater in Michigan.
The entertainment aspect of the campus creates a dynamic experience which offers a number of options which effortlessly wipe the monotony that can often follow long stints at a university. With Meadow Brook and the Palace of Auburn Hills in close proximity, OU and its affiliates offer a community in which students have access to every form of entertainment that both Rochester and Auburn Hills have to offer.
Being a former student, I can safely say that there are no better instructors than those at OU. The style of teaching is different than I have previously experienced in the sense that students are taught how to apply their education in the modern world. Sure, the archaic way of doing things is still taught, but the focus lands more upon where the profession is headed and how to deal with the shift. For example, my journalism degree taught me editing, sure, but also offered a course on reporting using the Internet as well as theory as to the reasons and rapidity of print publications all becoming Internet based.
So rest assured, if you're considering a university in Michigan, you can't go wrong with Oakland University. For more information check out the links below.
